Ogoola Karuta Poetry Game is a westernized version of a 400-year-old Japanese poetry (card) game called Karuta. This English Classic edition uses famous poetry quotes written by English, American, Irish and Scottish poets from the 14th to the 19th century. Some of the poets included are Shakespeare, Byron, Keats and Blake. The game is sometimes described as intellectual martial arts. It is about listening and being extremely focused and fast, just like the Samurai with their swords. Only here you fight with cards instead. To begin, a reader is chosen or a reader app will be used to read the famous poetry quotations on the reading cards aloud. Players listen and search for the playing card with the second part of that quotation being read aloud. Be the first to get the matching cards to win. No prior knowledge is needed. You will learn poems automatically while you play. The whole quotation on the cards will be read aloud. The free companion Reader app: "Ogoola Karuta EN 100" or "Karuta English Ogoola" is available in android or iOS. The poems are read by the actress and singer Myrra Malmberg.
